[ARCHIVED] Cemetery Walk

Join us for the Cookeville Cemetery Walk, on Saturday, September 17 with walks at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Meet with your group and walking guide behind the cemetery office at 241 S. Walnut Ave. to begin. Visit with some of Cookeville’s dearly departed and hear the stories of their lives while seated near their graves.

 Our audience can expect to enjoy an evening filled with wonderful historical storytelling!


 Cookeville Cemetery Walk 2022:
 1. Colonel Charles H. Whitney (1838-1912), and his daughter, Gertrude (1875-1943). Actors: Steve Gwilt & Elissa Longfellow Marks. Script: Museums' Staff. Meet the Whitneys, who helped form the early days of Cookeville.
 2. Cordell Hull Sloan, Jr. (1927-1985). Actor: Dwight Henry. Script: Museums' Staff. Sometimes you just have to stand up for what you believe to be right.
 3. Frances Ford "Fannie" Denny (1854-1908). Actor: Jordyn Strilecky. Script: Museums' Staff. We all know HIStory, but what about HERstory? Hear how women's stories can sometimes get lost in time.
 4. Minnie Crawford Barbour (1885-1958). Actor: Peggy Fragopoulos. Script: Museums' Staff. Hear Minnie's story and have a little Sunday School lesson while you're at it!
 5. Bettye Bohannon Marshall (1902-1991). Actor: Prudence van Aalten. Script: Matt Beal. Bettye went by several names in her action-packed life! Find out why…
 6. George Washington "The General" Alcorn (1861-1935). Actor: Patrick Mannle. Script: Matt Beal. Sheriff Alcorn seemed tough as nails, but was there a moral tug-of-war inside him that no one could see?
