[ARCHIVED] Beginners pickleball clinic Dec. 4 at Cane Creek Gymnasium

Beginners Pickleball Clinic at Cane Creek Gymnasium

COOKEVILLE – Want to learn to play pickleball?

Cookeville Leisure Services is offering a beginners pickleball clinic Dec. 4 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Cane Creek Gymnasium.

“The goal of the clinic is to introduce new players to pickleball while advancing some of the skills of beginner players,” Tyler Johnson, Leisure Services athletic coordinator, said.

Pickleball is a sport for two to four players that combines elements of tennis, ping-pong and badminton. Players use a solid paddle to hit a small plastic ball (similar to a wiffle ball) over a net.

Clinic participants will learn the skills they need to be able to compete, including games rules, strategy and basic paddle movements. Equipment is provided.

“I believe people enjoy pickleball due to its familiar and competitive nature,” Johnson said. “Most of us grew up playing either tennis or ping-pong, and pickleball has a lot of similarities to both of those. In addition, pickleball provides a good cardio workout from the quick movements and running involved.”

Registration is open through Dec. 1 HERE or by calling 931-526-9767. The cost is $15, which includes a voucher for a free entry into a future pickleball league offered by Cookeville Leisure Services.
