[ARCHIVED] Public meeting to review Cookeville’s recreation master plan is May 17

Dogwood Park

COOKEVILLE – The first draft of Cookeville’s systemwide recreation master plan that will guide its Leisure Services Department for the next decade will be reviewed in a public meeting May 17.

Associates from master plan consultant Kimley-Horn will be on hand at 5:30 p.m. at the Cookeville Municipal Building, 45 E. Broad St., to discuss the results of a survey that was available to the community in March.

“Now that we have a draft master plan for review, we will be sharing the highlights of how we’ve gotten here – the data collected, the community engagement, the needs assessment – and what the plan says we need for the next 10 years,” Alisha Eley of Kimley-Horn said.

The survey gave citizens an opportunity to comment on recreation opportunities already being offered by the city as well as suggest new ideas for parks, facilities, programs and events.

“We are pleased that we had over 1,600 responses from the survey, and we’ll get to see a summary of that at this meeting,” Rick Woods, Cookeville Leisure Services director, said.

Attendees will be able to comment on survey results and see various aspects of the master plan, including basic designs for some upcoming projects.

Eley said, “Community and stakeholder engagement has been a critical piece to creating this draft master plan, and we would love to continue to have that input at this final review period.”

Individuals may also attend the meeting via Zoom. For the meeting ID and passcode, call Cookeville Leisure Services at 931-520-4386.
