PUBLIC NOTICE

COOKEVILLE CITY COURT IN-PERSON COURT PROCEEDINGS SUSPENDED THROUGH MARCH 31, 2021.

 Due to the record number of COVID-19 cases and related hospitalizations in Tennessee and Executive Order #73 by the Governor of Tennessee, the Tennessee Supreme Court, under its constitutional, statutory, and inherent authority entered an Order on December 30, 2020 extending the suspension of all in-person court proceedings until close of business on March 31, 2021.

Persons having court dates which have been or may be scheduled for dates prior to March 31, 2021 are advised that those court dates will be rescheduled for dates after March 31, 2021.When the new court dates have been rescheduled, they will be published from time to time on the City of Cookeville website (www.cookeville-tn.gov), on facebook at (https://www.facebook.com/CityofCookeville), in The Herald-Citizen, in the Upper Cumberland Business Journal, and on local radio stations. The new dates will also be available from the Cookeville city court clerk's office after March 31, 2021, provided the Tennessee Supreme Court's suspension has been lifted by that date.

Although City Court in-person proceedings will not be held until the rescheduled dates due to the pandemic, the City Court clerk's office will remain accessible to the public in person and by telephone or by email during regular business hours Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Consistent with the court's obligation to mitigate the risks of COVID-19, persons entering Cookeville City Hall will be required to comply with recommended social distancing measures that are in place at time of entry. Such measures shall include: wearing mask, social distanced seating, staggered entrance times, limited in-person contact in and around city hall, and such other measures as may be necessary to minimize in-person contact.

You may contact the city court clerk's office at 931-520-5254 or by email at chix@cookeville-tn.gov with any questions you may have, or to discuss payment of your ticket in advance, make arrangements to complete driving school, request a continuance, or for any other City Court matters.

You are advised to check frequently with the city of Cookeville's website www.cookeville-tn.gov, or facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CityofCookeville because of the possibility of future changes to you scheduled court date due to COVID-19 pandemic.
