[ARCHIVED] WestSide scavenging fun returns Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13

WestSide Scavenger Hunt

COOKEVILLE – “Scavengers” will be exploring Cookeville’s historic WestSide district this Saturday.

With a cell phone in one hand and a paper with tiny images and clues in the other, they’ll be easy to spot as they search for items in and around participating businesses as part of Cookeville Leisure Services’ ninth annual WestSide Scavenger Hunts.

“It’s super easy and super fun,” Ashely McKee, Cookeville museums education specialist, said of the free activity. Two other second-Saturday-of-the-month hunts are scheduled for Feb. 13 and March 13.

Entry forms may be picked up at the Cookeville Depot Museum between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The goal is to find each object pictured on the form and recreate the image with a digital camera or cell phone. Completed forms will be entered in a drawing for a prize basket filled with items from participating businesses.

Participants are asked to wear face masks.

Cookeville’s WestSide includes numerous specialty shops, unique eateries, antique stores, art studios and more, all within walking distance of the Cookeville Depot. Colorful murals, restored facades, and signs featuring photos from Cookeville’s olden days enhance the self-guided experience.

The scavenger hunts offer participants a chance to discover new destinations and revisit old favorites in the district.

“Each month’s hunt is unique, with a different group of clues that lead you to each merchant that has graciously provided a donation to the prize basket,” McKee said.

The Cookeville Depot Museum is located at 116 W. Broad St. For more information, call 931-528-8570.
