[ARCHIVED] Dogwood Park interactive fountain to resume June 20

COOKEVILLE – Dogwood Park’s fountain will flow again Saturday.

“We are pleased to announce that we are turning on the interactive fountain so people can enjoy the cool, refreshing water,” Rick Woods, Cookeville Leisure Services director, said.

The popular oasis will resume its regular schedule of automatically turning on at 7:30 a.m. and shutting off at 10 p.m.

Woods said the water is not a concern since it is treated and filtered just like water in a swimming pool.

“But large crowds are a concern,” Woods said. “We strongly encourage people to be considerate of others and not overcrowd the fountain area. Social distancing – staying six feet away from others – is still the standard.”

If crowds do become overwhelming and social distancing is not observed, Woods said the city will consider turning the fountain off to reduce the potential for the spread of the coronavirus.

“We encourage people to enjoy the fountain, but with caution and in moderation,” he added. “Please stay home if you are sick or exhibiting any symptoms.”

Dogwood Park’s fountain is also a nighttime attraction due to its colorful lights.

“It’s beautiful to watch from a distance,” Woods said. “You don’t have to be in it to enjoy it.”
