[ARCHIVED] After Dark Movies in the Park series returns to Dogwood Park

A crowd gathers for an After Dark movie at Dogwood Park.

COOKEVILLE – Warm, starry nights. Blankets on the lawn. And popcorn.

It’s time for After Dark Movies in the Park at Dogwood Park.

The free movie series, presented by Cookeville Leisure Services and State Rep. Ryan Williams and his wife, Abby, will be shown on Friday nights in June beginning with “Ralph Breaks the Internet” on June 7.

“Watching movies in the park is a great way to spend a summer evening,” Chad McDonald, Cookeville Leisure Services cultural arts superintendent, said. “Movies start right at dark as the sun is setting, so it’s usually just a bit cooler – the perfect time to enjoy the park.”

The movies continue June 14 with “Mary Poppins Returns,” June 21 with “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and June 28 with “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World.”

A bonus Saturday movie, “Incredibles 2,” will be shown July 6 as part of the City of Cookeville’s fifth annual Red, White and Boom celebration.

“This year’s line-up features titles sure to appeal to any moviegoer,” McDonald said.

Movies will be shown on a large screen in front of the Dogwood Performance Pavilion at 30 E. Broad St. Closed captioning is provided.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket or use the permanent tiered seating. Concessions will be available.

The After Dark Movies in the Park series has become a popular start to the summer season, attracting hundreds to Dogwood Park.

“It is an excellent opportunity for the entire family to spend an evening together in a beautiful setting,” McDonald said.
