[ARCHIVED] Learn more about Lane Motor Museum and microcars in Saturday presentation

Lane Motor Museum lecture

COOKEVILLE – If you love the Cookeville History Museum’s wildly popular microcars exhibit, here’s an opportunity to learn more about where they came from.

Rex Bennett, education director of Nashville’s Lane Motor Museum, will be giving a lecture Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Cookeville City Hall, 45. E. Broad St. Refreshments will be served at 10 a.m.

“This exhibit has been the most-attended temporary exhibit we have had since the history museum opened in 2007,” Pam Philpot, Cookeville History Museum exhibit specialist, said. “More than 1,200 have visited over the last month. I think people are fascinated with these funny little cars and even more with the fact that there are actually six cars parked inside the museum.”

Bennett, a lifelong resident of Cookeville, has worked with Lane Motor Museum for four years. In addition, he is a Cookeville History Museum docent and a Friends of the Cookeville History Museum board member.

He is anxious to share his love of unique automobiles with the community.

“It will be a two-part presentation, one describing the history of Lane Motor Museum and how it got started, as well as some of our more well-known cars,” Bennett said. “The second part will be a history of microcars and a few more specifics on the cars in the exhibit at the Cookeville History Museum.”

A question-and-answer session will follow.

Philpot encourages everyone to come to the presentation to learn more about why they should visit Lane Motor Museum.

“You do not have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy what the Lane Motor Museum has to offer,” she said. “It is fun for everyone because you are going to see a variety of vehicles you probably have never seen driving down any American road. Everything on exhibit is unique.”

The Cookeville History Museum is located at 40 E. Broad St. Its “Lane Motor Museum Travels to Cookeville” exhibit continues through March 23. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 931-520-5455.
