[ARCHIVED] Dogwood Park summer concerts conclude Labor Day weekend

People gather at the Dogwood Park performance pavilion for a concert.

COOKEVILLE – Catch Dogwood Park’s final two concerts of the summer season this Labor Day weekend.

First up on Sunday will be the Bryan Symphony Orchestra with its annual outdoor community concert. Then on Monday, Big Band Sound will take the stage. Both concerts are free and start at 7:30 p.m.

“Cookeville Leisure Services is proud to partner with the symphony to present this concert in the park,” Chad McDonald, cultural arts superintendent, said. “It brings the biggest crowd we see all year.”

The event will begin with children’s activities at 6:30 p.m. Musical selections include excerpts from “West Side Story,” “Swan Lake,” this season’s “La Boheme” and a selection of patriotic classics.

Monday’s Big Band Sound concert will present swing and jazz tunes from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Dancing is encouraged.

“Big Band Sound is very popular with audiences and dancers,” McDonald said.

Attendees may bring lawn chairs and blankets or take advantage of the tiered permanent seating. Concessions are available.
