[ARCHIVED] Third Thursday concert series to conclude Aug. 16 with The Believers

The Believers

COOKEVILLE – An evening of bluegrass gospel awaits music lovers at Dogwood Park.

The Believers will take the stage Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m., concluding this year’s Third Thursday in the Park summer concert series presented by Cookeville Leisure Services. Admission is free.

“Bluegrass gospel is a favorite of many in this area,” Chad McDonald, Leisure Services cultural arts superintendent, said. “The Believers play many of the old-time favorites as well as new mixes.”

Band members include Junior Phipps and Nathan Bullock, guitar; Jerry Cooper, mandolin and guitar; Randall Vaughn, banjo; Matt Vaughn, dobro, mandolin and guitar; Shane Hood, electric bass; and Stephanie Mocilan, fiddle.

“We started this ministry in 2013 with nothing more in mind than to use our musical gifts to glorify God,” band members said on their Facebook page.

Attendees may use the permanent amphitheater-style seating in the park or bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions are available.

“Third Thursday concerts are an opportunity to experience the beauty and serenity of Dogwood Park while also enjoying a variety of music,” McDonald said.

The concert series is also made possible by the Cookeville Arts Council.

Dogwood Park is located at 30 E. Broad St. For more information about concerts, call 931-528-1313.
