The City of Cookeville installed 20 new School Zone Flasher System Time Switches over the summer break. This upgrade replaces the older time switch models, which required manual programming at each individual flasher.
The previous time switches were limited to only 10 functions and required in-person programming twice a year. These older models also lacked the capability to accommodate early release days.
The newly installed wireless flashers represent a significant improvement in efficiency. Utilizing the RTC Connect app, the City’s Public Works Department can now remotely program the entire school year's schedule into the flashers and quickly make changes to daily schedules should the need arise.
This advanced system eliminates the need for on-site reprogramming and offers enhanced flexibility by providing enough scheduling for the entire school year. The new time switches support scheduling for early release days, daylight savings adjustments, and school holidays. The updated system streamlines the programing process for the City and significantly improves overall traffic management within Cookeville’s school zones.
The upgrades to the school flasher system were approved by the City Council in May for a total cost of $34,760.
