Beer Permit for On-Premise

On-Premise Beer Permits are issued to restaurants that have a seating capacity of at least 75 people at tables. An application for On-Premise Beer Permit must be completed in a persons name that will be responsible for the enforcement of the Municipal Code Title 8, Chapter 2 Sections 8-201 through 8-222 (PDF). There is a $250 non-refundable application fee and a yearly beer privilege tax of $100 due each January 1. At the time a new application is applied, the applicant will pay a prorated portion of the privilege tax based on the remaining months until the next tax payment date. 

The applicant for the beer permit must either sign the application in front of the City Clerk or have their signature notarized. Also on the application, must be notarized, the signature of two people that have known the applicant for at least two years, not related to the applicant and can verify good moral character of the applicant. After the completed application, a copy of the State of TN Sales and Use Tax Certificate, a copy of the applicant’s Tennessee Driver’s license and fees are received; the City Clerk will do an inspection of the facility. If the inspection is favorable a permit will be issued at that time.

Liquor by the Drink

City of Cookeville Municipal Code Title 8, Chapter 1, Section 8-101 through 8-105 (PDF) allows on premise consumption of alcoholic beverages if approved by the State of Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. To apply for a liquor license or if you have any questions call 615-741-1602. When a liquor license is issued by the State of Tennessee, an annual privilege tax is to be paid to the City of Cookeville for the same dollar amount that is paid to the State of Tennessee.

Off-Premise Beer Permits are issued to grocery store, drug store, convenience store or tobacco store. An application for Off-Premise Beer Permit must be completed in a persons name that will be responsible for the enforcement of the Municipal Code Title 8, Chapter 2 Sections 8-201 through 8-222 (PDF).
