After Dark Movies in the Park at Dogwood Park

COOKEVILLE – Friday nights. Movies under the stars. And popcorn.

Check, check and check.

The After Dark Movies in the Park series, presented by Cookeville Leisure Services and State Rep. Ryan Williams, begins June 4 at Dogwood Park with “Raya and the Last Dragon.” It continues each Friday through July 2, with movies starting at dark. Admission is free.

“This series allows the public to enjoy an evening in Dogwood Park watching a movie for free,” Chad McDonald, Leisure Services cultural arts superintendent, said. “It is very popular with families who have small children or large families looking for a cost-friendly activity.”

Other movies to be shown include “Onward” on June 11; “Jungle Book” (live action version) on June 18; “Tangled” on June 25; and “Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” on July 2.

“Being in the park as the sun sets and the stars come out is magical in and of itself, but the added excitement from a great movie can make it an evening to remember,” McDonald said.

Movies are shown on a large screen in front of the Dogwood Performance Pavilion at 30 E. Broad St. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions will be available.

“There is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the event,” McDonald said.
