Avoid the lines and pay your utility bill in other ways.

The City of Cookeville is aware that some of its utility customers may be experiencing a heightened concern about conducting daily business that requires them to be in the general public.  As such, the City would like to remind all of its utility customers (gas, water, electric) of multiple convenient methods of paying their utility bills.

The first method is to simply send payment by mail.

The second method is to take advantage of our drive-through window on the west side of City Hall.  Cash and checks are accepted at this window.

The third method involves the creation of an electronic bank draft.  This method causes the customer’s utility bill to be withdrawn on the due date each month.  The customer has to take no action to pay their bill – it’s paid automatically.  There is no additional fee to pay for using this method.  To create an electronic bank draft all the customer needs to do is complete the Electronic Bank Draft Utility Payment Form, which can be accessed on the City of Cookeville’s website, and provide a voided check to the Customer Service Department.

The fourth method for a customer to pay involves an “e-check.”  This method allows the customer to pay his/her bill online by providing the bank account and routing numbers for the account from which the funds are to be withdrawn.  In order to use this method, the customer needs to establish on-line access to his or her account through the on-line portal.  The portal is accessible on the City’s website.  There is a $1.00 fee for each transaction conducted using this method.

The fifth method involves paying one’s utility bill with the use of a debit or credit card.  A fee of up to 2.45% of the total bill will be assessed for each transaction using this method.  Like the method above, a customer can pay through the on-line portal or download the free mobile app called “City of Cookeville Utilities” available at the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.    Card payments can also be made by telephone by calling 931-286-7021.   You will need your account number, when placing the call.  All of these options are available 24 hours a day.

Information pertaining to these payment methods can be obtained through the City’s website or by using this link:

The City values its utility customers and continually strives to provide them with quality service.  We encourage our customers who are engaging in social distancing to utilize one of the above methods to pay their utility bills.  If you have any questions, please call Customer Service at (931) 520-5219.

Here are directions for setting up your online account.
