COOKEVILLE – Now that schools are back in session, Cane Creek Park’s paddleboats are available on weekends through October.
They may be rented at the park’s concession stand on Saturdays from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sundays from 1-7 p.m. Take a ride for only $3 in a two-seater or $4 in a four-seater per half hour.
“It’s a great way to enjoy the sunshine and scenery and get some exercise,” Dennis Woolbright, park manager, said. “We’re the only park close by where you can enjoy paddleboats.”
Cane Creek Park is open 7 a.m.-10 p.m. through Labor Day. After Labor Day, it is open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. through Oct. 30. From Oct. 31 through Daylight Saving Time (mid-March), hours are 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Then, hours go back to 7 a.m.-9 p.m. through Memorial Day.
Paddleboat renters must be at least 18 years old. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Life jackets are required and provided.
Also available to rent at the concession stand are fishing poles, basketballs, volleyballs and golf discs. All rentals are cash-only.
The 262-acre Cane Creek Park, located at 201 C C Camp Road, is one of 10 parks maintained by Cookeville Leisure Services. In addition to paddleboats, it features several walking trails, a mountain bike trail, disc golf course, basketball and volleyball courts, picnic shelters and play equipment.
The 56-acre lake offers a variety of catches, including rainbow trout, large-mouth bass, bluegill, crappie, carp, brim and catfish. Fishermen may try their luck from the bank, two fishing piers or a boat with a trolling motor or paddles. Children 12 and under may fish without a license.
