COOKEVILLE – Ready for the eclipse? Cookeville is a prime location for viewing the highly anticipated total solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21.
This once-in-a-lifetime event, which will feature two minutes and 33 seconds of total midday darkness, will be celebrated all weekend in various ways throughout Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland area.
On Saturday, Aug. 19, at Dogwood Park, Cookeville Leisure Services will host a meet and greet at 6 p.m. with characters from WCTE-PBS’s “Ready, Jet, Go,” followed by storytelling at 7 p.m. with tales and folklore of past eclipses. At 8 p.m., the After Dark Movies in the Park series concludes with “Star Wars: Rogue One.”
On the day of the eclipse, thousands will gather at Tennessee Tech University’s Tucker Stadium for a full day of special eclipse-themed activities, including tailgating, vendor booths and a STEM mobile. The excitement continues into the evening as the Cookeville Community Band presents a celestial-themed concert at 7:30 p.m. at Dogwood Park.
