Welcome to the City of Cookeville. I am City Manager, Mike Davidson. I am glad you’re taking the opportunity to review the City’s website. I am a lifelong resident of Cookeville, and am honored to be serving the citizens of my hometown. Cookeville is a wonderful place to live, work, play and learn.
I’d like to share some information on our great city and community- Cookeville is the county seat of Putnam County, we continue to experience a tremendous amount of growth and are one of the largest micropolitan areas in Tennessee. Cookeville is centrally located within a hundred mile radius of Nashville, Knoxville and Chattanooga, with easy access from Interstate 40. Cookeville is also the proud home of Tennessee Technological University.
The City’s current population is over 31,000, and we are the regional hub for dining, shopping, education, healthcare and cultural/recreational activities for approximately 343,000 people in the Upper Cumberland. Many of our visitors do so daily, and feel very much a part of the community. The City owns and operates ten parks, the largest; Cane Creek boasts 260 acres with a 56 acre lake and is in close proximity to the Cane Creek Recreation Center, which provides year round fitness activities. Dogwood Park, located in the historic downtown area, includes an amphitheater, fountain and the all accessible Heart of the City children’s playground area. Many state parks are within a short drive, along with three Army Corp. of Engineer’s lakes. The Cookeville Performing Arts Center is owned and operated by the City, offering a full schedule of touring plays and performances. The University’s Bryan Symphony Orchestra present several concerts in the community each year, including Dogwood Park.
As you can see, residents and visitors can find many outlets on any given day for recreation, the arts, shopping and dining. Many events have been hosted in Cookeville, where visitors have found a sense of community, a welcoming atmosphere and team spirit. We look forward to new relationships and positive growth. The staff has and continues to work for future planning. My enthusiasm for our great city grows each day. If I or my staff may be of assistance to you, please feel free to contact us or visit City Hall.
